PHS Datashred Invests for Growth
2/3/2012
U.K. shredding firm plans to purchase new mobile shredders.
PHS Datashred, a U.K.-based document destruction firm, has announced plans to invest £1.2 million (US$1.9 million) in new shredding equipment in an effort to improve its service to its growing customer base.
According to the company, the investments will include new machinery at its Manchester and London depots as well as the purchase of four new MDX–1GT mobile shredding vehicles, manufactured by Shred-Tech, based in Cambridge, Ontario. PHS says the shredders are the first to be used outside of the United States and Canada. The shredding vehicles have a significantly increased throughput, allowing Datashred to tap into the market for high security shredding within the central government, according to the company.
The investments follow PHS Datashred having landed accounts with a number of high-profile clients, including Barclays Bank, Rothchilds and various government departments.
“This is an exciting time for PHS Datashred,” says Anthony Pearlgood, commercial director of the company. “We’re developing the technological capabilities of the business so we can offer customers the most thorough service possible. This year we’re aiming to increase our nationwide client portfolio even further whilst being more environmentally responsible and offering a quicker service on site.”
Along with mobile paper shredding capabilities, PHS Datashred says it will be offering customers improved services and that it has recently enhanced its fleet of mobile shredding trucks with on-board hard drive crushers.
The company says the vehicles are capable of shredding paper twice as fast as standard mobile shredders at three metric tons of paper per hour. This increased efficiency means lower vehicle emissions and less time that the truck needs to be on site.
The company has also invested £1 million (US$1.6 million) at its Crayford and Manchester depots to develop in-house shredders. Manchester’s shredder is now able to shred up to 3 metric tons of paper per hour, while the shredder at the company’s Crayford facility can destroy 12 metric tons per hour, according to PHS Datashred.
PHS Datashred presently operates 14 locations throughout the U.K.
