NAID Releases CSDS Study Materials

Association launches Certified Secure Destruction Specialist professional accreditation program.

The National Association for Information Destruction (NAID), Phoenix, has announced that study materials and information regarding training opportunities for its newly launched professional accreditation program, the Certified Secure Destruction Specialist (CSDS), are available at www.naidonline.org.

A NAID task force has been working throughout the last year to develop the CSDS certification program. According to a press release issued by NAID, “This personal accreditation will serve as the premier designation for secure destruction industry personnel and will test for knowledge in areas such as regulatory and legislative compliance, risk management, physical security, information security principles and destruction systems and service operations and safety—among others.”

NAID CEO Bob Johnson says, “As our industry matures and secure destruction companies continue to operate in an increasingly regulated environment, under increased public scrutiny, we will continue to see consumers demand more of service providers.” He adds, “One of the ways to re-assure consumers that a service provider is capable of assuming the risk associated with handling data is by having qualified and knowledgeable personnel who have been tested on their industry knowledge. NAID’s new Certified Secure Destruction Specialist program is the only accreditation program specific to our industry and will help provide that reassurance for customers.”

Additional study materials and training opportunities will be released in the coming months, according to NAID, as will test dates and locations. Testing for the CSDS begins January 2011. A free CDSD webinar will be offered Monday, Aug. 2, at 2 p.m. EST and again on Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. EST, as well, according to information posted on the NAID Website.
